Donna Albina
Here's something about the name of our Bed and Breakfast in Naples and the name of the street it is located in.
Matilde Serao, one of the most important writers of XIX century, wrote Neapolitanian Legends, an anthology of historical tales of the city. Donna Albina is the protagonist of one of them, a young girl with two sisters living in the Naples of the XIVth century and daughters of the noble Toraldo. After the death of the ancient father, the king Roberto summoned the eldest daughter, Donna Regina, to communicate her next marriage with the Count Filippo Capece. But the other two sisters too, Donna Romita and Donna Albina, fell in love with this gentleman.
The two younger sisters, according to customs of those ancient times, entered a convent and became nuns, the eldest had a life of bitterness, married with a man who didn't love her, in love in his turn of Donna Romita.
As a tribute to this sad love story, in Naples there are three streets with the sisters'names: via Donnaregina, beside the Cathedral, vico Donnaromita, near Piazzetta Nilo, and via Donnalbina, where our bed and breakfast is.
